What is BNP Paribas Securities Services?

BNP Paribas Securities Services is a leading global custodian and a wholly-owned subsidiary of the BNP Paribas Group. It provides multi-asset post-trade and asset servicing solutions for institutional participants across the investment cycle. Recently, the division has expanded into the digital asset space, acting as a bridge between traditional finance and decentralized technology by offering services such as digital asset custody, tokenization of funds, and settlement of security tokens.

How Does BNP Paribas Securities Services Work?

The project operates by integrating blockchain technology into its existing core banking infrastructure. It utilizes specialized platforms like 'CIB AssetFoundry' for tokenization and connectivity to public networks like Ethereum. Through partnerships with fintech leaders like Fireblocks and Metaco, the service provides secure 'hot' and 'cold' wallet management, enabling institutional clients to issue, transfer, and store regulated digital assets with the same level of security and compliance as traditional equities.

What Makes BNP Paribas Securities Services Unique?

What distinguishes this project is its 'integrated model' that allows for the coexistence of traditional and digital assets in a single operational view. It has successfully piloted the issuance of tokenized money market fund shares on the public Ethereum blockchain using a permissioned access model. This ensures that while the infrastructure benefits from the transparency of public ledgers, all participants are rigorously verified and compliant with global financial regulations.

Who Are the Founders of BNP Paribas Securities Services?

BNP Paribas Securities Services is a division of the BNP Paribas Group, one of the largest banking groups in the world. The digital asset initiatives are led by internal experts such as Wayne Hughes, Head of Digital Assets, and Paul Daly, Head of Distribution Product Solutions. The overarching strategy is governed by the executive leadership of BNP Paribas CIB (Corporate and Institutional Banking), leveraging centuries of institutional expertise to navigate the emerging crypto landscape.
