Ocean Network: Project Guide | Latest Updates, Presale & Airdrop

Q: What is the Purpose of Ocean Network?

The purpose of Ocean Network is to provide a decentralized infrastructure for the exchange of data and compute power, specifically tailored to the needs of AI developers and researchers while maintaining data sovereignty.

Q: How Can I Participate in Ocean Network's Ecosystem?

Users can participate by running an Ocean Node to provide compute power, publishing datasets on the Ocean Market, or staking OCEAN tokens in 'Data Farming' to earn rewards for providing liquidity to valuable datasets.

Q: What Sets Ocean Network Apart from Competitors?

Unlike traditional data marketplaces, Ocean utilizes blockchain for permissionless access and 'Compute-to-Data' to solve privacy issues, and it is now expanding into decentralized GPU orchestration for AI training.

Q: Is Ocean Network Secure?

Yes, Ocean Network is built on the Ethereum blockchain and its smart contracts have undergone multiple professional security audits. It also recently earned SOC 2 Type 1 attestation for enterprise-grade security.

Q: What are the Risks Associated with Ocean Network?

Risks include market volatility, the complexity of technical integration for non-web3 users, and regulatory uncertainty regarding the categorization of data as a digital asset.

Ocean Network

Infra Cloud Computing AI

Ocean Network is a decentralized, peer-to-peer (P2P) compute network for pay-per-use compute jobs that turns idle or underutilized GPUs into usable distributed compute resources. It lets users choose a preferred Ocean Node with the resources the users need, submit a containerized job, and get results back without managing servers or infrastructure.

What is Ocean Network?

Ocean Network (commonly known as Ocean Protocol) is a decentralized, open-source data exchange protocol designed to unlock data for Artificial Intelligence (AI). Its mission is to create a New Data Economy by giving power back to data owners while enabling researchers and startups to access high-quality datasets. It allows for the sharing and monetization of data in a secure, transparent, and privacy-preserving manner using blockchain technology.

How Does Ocean Network Work?

The network operates by tokenizing data into 'datatokens' and 'data NFTs' on the Ethereum blockchain. Data providers 'publish' their data by creating these tokens, which act as access keys. Consumers can then purchase these tokens to gain access to the underlying datasets. The protocol uses 'Compute-to-Data' technology, which allows AI models to run on private data without the data ever leaving the owner's premises, ensuring both utility and privacy.

What Makes Ocean Network Unique?

Ocean Network is unique for its focus on the 'Compute-to-Data' feature, which solves the trade-off between data privacy and data utilization. It also stands out by integrating with the broader DeFi ecosystem, allowing data to be treated as a financial asset (Data DeFi). Recently, it has expanded its scope into the 'Ocean Network' beta, which focuses on orchestrating P2P GPU compute resources, turning idle hardware into a decentralized AI compute market.

Who Are the Founders of Ocean Network?

Ocean Network was founded in 2017 by Bruce Pon and Trent McConaghy. Bruce Pon is an experienced entrepreneur who previously founded BigchainDB and has a background in building international banks. Trent McConaghy is a renowned AI researcher and technologist with decades of experience in AI and engineering. Together, they lead the Ocean Protocol Foundation to advance the decentralized data economy.
