Q: What is the Purpose of Noir?

The primary goal of Noir is to become the universal language for zero-knowledge proofs, making programmable privacy accessible to every developer regardless of their background in cryptography.

Q: How Can I Participate in Noir's Ecosystem?

Users can participate by learning the language via the official documentation, contributing to open-source libraries on GitHub, or joining the developer community on Discord and X.

Q: What Sets Noir Apart from Competitors?

Unlike Circom or Halo2 which require circuit-level knowledge, Noir uses high-level Rust syntax and is proving-backend agnostic, allowing for greater flexibility and faster development cycles.

Q: What are the Risks Associated with Noir?

Potential risks include the complexity of zero-knowledge technology which may lead to unintentional private information leakage if circuits are poorly designed, as well as the early-stage nature of the v1.0 beta software.

Noir

Infra Wallet

Noir is a privacy-first browser extension wallet built natively on Zcash, bringing shielded transactions, ZECFi access, and cross-chain privacy into one simplified interface. Noir is designed to make ZEC work within the broader DeFi ecosystem the community can swap, lend, earn yield, and move assets across chains while keeping their activity private and designed to make ZEC work within the broader DeFi ecosystem

What is Noir?

Noir is an open-source, domain-specific programming language (DSL) designed for zero-knowledge (ZK) programming. Developed by Aztec Labs and supported by the Ethereum Foundation, it provides a high-level, Rust-like syntax that abstracts the underlying cryptographic complexity, allowing developers to write verifiable private programs without deep expertise in mathematics or circuit design.

How Does Noir Work?

Noir compiles code into an intermediate representation known as Abstract Circuit Intermediate Representation (ACIR). This intermediate format is platform-agnostic, meaning it can be translated into constraints for various cryptographic backends such as Barretenberg, Halo2, or Plonky2. This allows developers to create ZK proofs that are compatible with multiple proving systems and blockchains, including the EVM and Aztec's Layer 2 network.

What Makes Noir Unique?

Noir is unique for its 'privacy-by-default' architecture and its extreme developer accessibility. By using familiar Rust-like syntax, it makes ZK-proof generation as simple as using a 'pub' keyword to expose data. It is proving-system-agnostic, enabling cross-chain utility and seamless integration into both Web2 and Web3 applications for use cases like private DeFi, anonymous social networks, and secure identity verification.

Who Are the Founders of Noir?

Noir is a community-driven project initiated by Aztec Labs. Key figures include Zac Williamson (Co-founder of Aztec) and the Aztec engineering team. Additionally, Noir Ventures, a brand venture studio led by Anthony Logan and Jamie Sellars, has been instrumental in the branding and broader ecosystem development of the project, helping to drive adoption through venture support and strategic partnerships.

What Key Events Have There Been for Noir?

Noir has reached significant milestones including its v1.0.0-beta release and the inaugural NoirCon events. It has been officially recognized as a coding language on GitHub and has seen wide adoption by major privacy projects like ZKPassport, ZKEmail, and StealthNote. Recent Ethereum upgrades (EIP-4844) have also significantly reduced the gas costs for verifying Noir proofs on-chain.

Project Announcements

Recent updates include the launch of 'Noir-Starter,' a full-stack development repository utilizing Next.js and Hardhat. The team is also currently undergoing rigorous security audits to prepare the language for its official 1.0 production release, projected for 2026.

Événements à venir

Latest Airdrop

Currently, there is no official token airdrop for Noir (the language), though projects within its ecosystem like Aztec and ZKPassport often hint at community rewards. Participants are encouraged to contribute to the GitHub repository or participate in testnets to remain eligible for potential future distributions.

ICO Time

Noir is a public-good programming language and does not have an ICO. Its development is funded by Aztec Labs and the Ethereum Foundation.

IDO Time

No IDO is planned for Noir as it is an infrastructure project rather than a standalone speculative token.

TGE Time

N/A - Noir operates as a development framework. However, its ecosystem partner Aztec Network is anticipated to have future token events.
