What is Sovra?

Sovra is a mobile-first, self-custodial fintech platform designed to provide users—particularly in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region—with a global digital dollar account powered by USDC. Its mission is to restore financial dignity by enabling individuals to hold, earn, and spend digital dollars without relying on traditional banks or intermediaries, thereby avoiding the risks of frozen accounts or local currency devaluation.

How Does Sovra Work?

Sovra operates using a self-custodial architecture where users maintain sole possession of their private keys, ensuring that funds remain accessible regardless of the platform's status. It utilizes the USDC stablecoin, which is backed 1:1 by US dollars and audited by Deloitte. The platform integrates with the Visa and Mastercard networks for spending and leverages decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols to offer users yield on their holdings.

What Makes Sovra Unique?

Sovra stands out by combining the security of self-custody with the convenience of traditional banking features like debit cards and peer-to-peer transfers. It specifically targets the unbanked and underbanked populations in 180 countries, providing a sovereign alternative to fragile fiat systems. Its architecture ensures that 'your money answers only to you,' effectively removing the middleman from global financial transactions.

Who Are the Founders of Sovra?

Sovra was founded by Ahmad Wehbi (CEO), who was inspired by the 2019 Lebanese financial crisis. The founding team consists of experts with backgrounds from McKinsey, Revolut, Jumpcloud, and various decentralized finance (DeFi) projects. Their collective expertise bridges the gap between traditional fintech and blockchain-native sovereign finance.
